Uncle Vanya – Anton Chekhov Ι Dionysus Theatre
Directed by Avra Sidiropoulou, Anton Chekhov’s masterpiece Uncle Vanya takes place in 19th century rural Russia.
The arrival of professor Serebryakov and his second, much younger wife, Yelena, to his farmstead, managed by Vanya and his niece, Sonia, disrupts the everyday life of its tenants. A series of revelations and confessions lead to the realisation that people’s lives remain captive to their illusions. Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya is a shocking reflection of human fate, beyond time and space.

Following a series of celebrated live concerts in Athens, renowned Greek songwriter Miltos Paschalidis returns on Rialto’s stage after several years.
Just before the 30th anniversary of his much-celebrated discography, he remembers the milestones of his career, presenting a repertoire of both familiar and more personal songs, combining rock with traditional music. Famed for his unique live shows, where one song gives way to another in an unpredictable alteration full of emotions, Miltos Paschalidis will lead his audience into an enchanting sing-along.

Colours – Savvas Chrysostomou, Yiorgos Papaconstantinou
A concert performance in the form of an album presentation titled Colours by artist and songwriter Savvas Chrysostomou. On the same occasion, Cypriot poet and writer Yiorgos Papaconstantinou wrote the same-titled play in the Cypriot dialect, a publication that also incorporates the lyrics of the songs, all part of a combined short story titled Colours. Each song represents a colour from the palette of humanity.
Colours traverses the insouciance of our childhood in the villages of Cyprus, following in the footsteps of adolescence and adulthood in cities made to hurt human relationships.

The Antilogue Theatre, faithful to its appointment with the young friends of theatre, presents the children's production "Don Quixote", the classic literary masterpiece by the Spanish author Miguel de Cervantes, in a theatrical adaptation and directed by Irene Andronicus. A bizarre dreamy knight moves among us. He cooks in our kitchen, sits in our living room, opens the door to our nursery and plays with all our toys. Like a child, only he's grown up now. The look on his face is funny makes us laugh. But if you look closely you will see his sad eyes. His reflection in the mirror is the same as yours Even his voice is like yours.

A Tribute to Nicolas Economou
On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of death of internationally acclaimed Cypriot pianist and composer Nicolas Economou, the Cultural Division of the Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL) organises a tribute concert in his memory, performed by pianists Ourania Menelaou and Manolis Neofytou.
The repertoire includes Orthodoxia – Sonata for Piano, as well as three pieces for Chick Corea written by Nicolas Economou. The pianists will also present compositions intrinsically related to N. Economou, such as Four dances from The Nutcracker, adapted by Economou himself for two pianos, Rachmaninoff’s Suita op.5, extracts from Béla Bartók’s Mikrokosmos for two pianos, as well as Four piece suite by composer Richard Rodney Bennett.

Premiere 3 Ι Cyprus Symphony Orchestra
We kick off the New Year with CySO’s Honorary Conductor Alkis Baltas on the podium to present a truly inspiring programme with music from the latter part of the 20th century.
Nicolas Economou, besides being a superb pianist, was also a gifted composer. The orchestra proudly presents four of the pieces from his solo piano etudes titled Childhood Whims, especially orchestrated for this programme by Alkis Baltas. The Four Temperaments by Paul Hindemith is known both as a concert piece as well as music for a neoclassical ballet commissioned and choreographed by George Balanchine for the Ballet Society in New York. Pianist Vicky Stylianou will be the soloist in this gem. Alkis Baltas describes his piece Music for Youth as “a composition addressed to those who always maintain a youthful temperament, regardless of their age!”
The highlight of the evening will surely be Cantus Arcticus or Concerto for birds and orchestra by Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara, which will receive its Cyprus premiere. It is a highly original and evocative work that incorporates the recorded song of birds from the Arctic Circle.

Ancient Babylon comes to life in a classic Met staging of biblical proportions.
Baritone George Gagnidze makes his Met role debut as the imperious king Nabucco, alongside Ukrainian soprano Liudmyla Monastyrska reprising her thrilling turn as his vengeful daughter Abigaille. Mezzosoprano Maria Barakova and tenor SeokJong Baek, in his company debut, are Fenena and Ismaele, and bass Dmitry Belosselskiy repeats his celebrated portrayal of the high priest Zaccaria. Daniele Callegari conducts Verdi’s early masterpiece, which features the ultimate showcase for the great Met Chorus, the moving “Va, pensiero.”

Alkinoos Ioannidis returns on Rialto’s stage for two concerts, accompanied, for the first time, by three Cypriot musicians performing stringed instruments, percussions and electronics, revisiting the repertoire in an innovative way.
Alternative arrangements and electronic sounds add up to this intensely emotional live concert that promises to become a joyful get-together between musicians and audience. The freedom of improvisation and the amalgamation of different music worlds define the very essence of this concert.
