The Department of Contemporary Culture of the Deputy Ministry of Culture and Rialto Theatre, organize on the 29th November a Pre-event as part of the 11th Cyprus Jazz & World Music Showcase 2024 at Technopolis20 in Paphos.
The bands who will perform at Technopolis20 for this music-filled evening are:
Nama Dama
Nama Dama is a performance artist from Cyprus. Her music is a combination of folk and electronic, accompanied by both atmospheric and intense vocals. Using live looping as her compass, she turns her one-woman act into a unique colorful ritual. She began performing in 2019, slowly building a loyal fanbase, releasing her first EP "Confessions to My Songbird" in 2021. Nama Dama has since performed at Tremor Festival in the Azores, twice at Fengaros Festival in Cyprus, Athens Music Week, Pulsar Festival in Samothraki, and TEDx Limassol. Today, she splits her time between her music as Nama Dama and working for theater productions. In 2024, she was awarded by the Cyprus Theatre Organisation with the “Young Artist of the Year” award. She is currently presenting her latest show PAGAN SOUL, which is part of her upcoming album. PAGAN SOUL is spiritual musicalperformance that juggles between human roots and today’s world order, shedding light on events such as the ongoing war in her second mother country, Ukraine.
Chunky Funky Band
Chunky Funky is a high-energy electro-funk jazz band led by pianist and composer Giorgos Morfitis on keys. Performing all original compositions by Morfitis, the band combines the soulful grooves of '70s funk with a modern sound. With Stelios Xydias on drums and Odysseas Toumazou on electric guitar, Chunky Funky delivers a fresh yet nostalgic vibe, blending explosive grooves with contemporary harmonies.
Their music is both danceable and intricate, drawing audiences into a vibrant world of complex rhythms and infectious energy. Chunky Funky’s performances pulse with life, capturing the essence of classic funk through a modern electro-jazz lens, recharging the soul with every beat.
